HANDMADE APPAREL
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alana Danielle wright
I was recently reminded that even as a little girl, I spent many many hours making clothes for my dolls and stuffed animals (my mother taught me to sew when I was 6!), and Ive been a crafty being since I could walk. I veered away from sewing for a time, during which I received a Bachelor's degree in Art in painting and drawing from Watkin's College of Art, Design, and Film in Nashville, TN back in 2013. After my graduation, I became a mother of two, and the desire to be near them inspired me to revisit the sewing crafts and to work for myself designing and creating. I love to use materials that are beautiful and sustainable. My obsession with "the perfect fit" has been a large focus in the designing process, and my creations are all tried and tested against my own body, even in the harsh and messy conditions of motherhood. I spent a long time thinking about ridding my own wardrobe of plastic and recycled bottle clothing, and learning to create clothing from natural fiber has made this process so gratifying. I feel grateful everyday that I'm able to do this- you all make it possible! Thank you for being here.
